1,4 Butanediol, CAS 110-63-4, or butane-1,4-diol (also abreviated BDO or BD) is an intermediate, chain extender, widely used in several chemical applications: plastics, polyurethanes, solvents, electronic chemicals, hot melt adhesives and fibers.
One of the main BDO applications is the production of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), a Thermoplastic Polyester; which, thanks to its properties, finds uses in the automotive, electrical and appliance industries.
Another significant application for 1,4 Butanediol is the production of THF; which is an important organic solvent. PTMEG is a polymer of THF, and it is the basic material for producing highly elastic polyurethane fibers that are used in several applications.
